Rest in Peace.

It has just come to my attention that the father of Modern Combat Shooting, Jeff Cooper, has passed away. Many of us for years have been reading his publications and columns, and no doubt many lives have been saved by his teachings.

From the Editor: The Community appears to be growing
From The EditorWell its been Just over a year and we're up to 386 total members. With last year's major changes for myself I was left with little time free to work on the site. This year though with stability restored and everything looking up, I suspect I will finally have time to add new reviews, technical articles, and just generally content that everyone should enjoy. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and I appreciate your continued support for The-Gunsmith.com.

Gun Free Zones.. or.. “Unarmed Victim Zones”
From The EditorIn the world we live in today, as gun owners we have many restrictions applied to us. There have been a number of recent successes in increasing our safety, our right to carry in more and more places. At the time of this writing, my Kentucky concealed weapons permit is good in 30 states. If all goes as planned I will be relocating to Texas soon, where I plan to obtain a Texas permit, which is still good in 24 states, a respectable number. I imagine most of you are aware of the strict nature of the background checks, and training Concealed Carriers undergo to obtain their licenses. It is an extreme rarity for a permit holder to be involved in crime, yet even with all the training and an assured clean background, there are still so many places we cannot carry.

Looking back at the events of today, in the Georgia courtroom, there was a great tragedy. A dangerous felon, obtained a handgun from his guard and Killed 3 people, wounded one more, pistolwhipped and carjacked a reporter, and is currently on the run. A retired homicide detective from NYC has offered a 10,000 dollar reward on this modern day Jesse James wannabe. Dead or Alive. Other organizations have pooled another 60,000 dollars in reward money for information leading to this fugitive’s capture. Three people, with families, an esteemed Judge, a court reporter, and a veteran Deputy have fallen, another Deputy, the lady who he took the gun from, lies in an Atlanta hospital in critical Condition.

This is the third high profile courthouse shooting in the last

Thanks Guys
From The EditorI want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for helping to get the site going over the last few months. Your reccomendations through email and chat have been the most valuable asset in getting this site on the path to becoming one of the best on the net.

I also want to thank everyone for the word of mouth we've been getting. The site is finally starting to grow at a satisfying rate, and I know without you, the members, it wouldn't happen.

One person in particular I'd like to thank is Chuck Rogers, for giving us all some fine examples of 1911 work to look at in the forums. One would be hard pressed to find better, and what is a gun site without plenty of eye candy.

I look foreward to this year as it should be a great one for The-Gunsmith.com and all our members, with new features planned, new firearms reviews, and hopefully some industry alliances formed. Also in the works are a couple product giveaways *won't be much at first, but something, as it'll likely be out of my own pocket* and a "proper" monthly newsletter.

Also for those of you who might run your own business, and would like some advertising through this site, get in touch with me and lets see what we can work out.

Well I guess thats it, keep your powder dry, and as always keep the suggestions coming.
